Handyman

Full-timeCentral Iowa

We’re looking for skilled, adaptable professionals who take pride in quality work and want to continue growing across multiple trades and service areas over time. At Iowa Home Consulting, we’re building a team-oriented company focused on professionalism, long-term growth, and creating a better experience for both homeowners and the people doing the work.

Salary of $60,000+, market-leading profit-sharing package, full benefits including health, dental, vision, and retirement, and up to $5,000 signing bonus.

Iowa Home Consulting is looking for a skilled, versatile Handyman to join our residential service team. Our Handyman division is built around a simple idea: homeowners shouldn’t have to spend weeks chasing contractors just to get smaller projects and repairs completed correctly. This role is ideal for someone who is experienced across a variety of residential trades, enjoys solving different problems every day, and can be trusted to work independently in customers’ homes. Unlike our remodeling team, Handyman work is designed around shorter appointments and generally one-day-or-less projects. You’ll move between customers, work through prioritized project lists, solve problems in the field, and provide a professional experience from arrival through completion. What You’ll Do Complete residential repairs, installations, maintenance, and small improvement projects Work through Half-Day, Full-Day, and individually scoped service appointments Perform a wide variety of work, including:

Drywall repair Door and window repair Trim and finish carpentry Shelving and mounting Cabinet and hardware installation Furniture and fixture assembly Deck and railing repairs Caulking and sealing Minor flooring repairs Painting and touch-ups General home repairs and maintenance Review each appointment’s scope, photos, notes, and priorities before arriving Arrive prepared with the appropriate tools and common materials Communicate professionally with homeowners when arriving and throughout the appointment Confirm the client’s priorities before beginning work Make good decisions about what can realistically be completed within the customer’s scheduled time Identify additional work or conditions that fall outside the booked scope Keep the client informed when priorities or expectations need to change Purchase or pick up materials when necessary Maintain a clean and organized work area Document completed work, project notes, and photos through our internal systems Perform a final walkthrough with the homeowner before leaving Represent Iowa Home Consulting professionally in customers’ homes and throughout the community What We’re Looking For Several years of residential construction, maintenance, remodeling, or handyman experience Broad skill set across multiple residential trades Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability Ability to work independently without constant field supervision Ability to accurately judge what can and cannot reasonably be completed within an appointment Professional communication skills Strong customer-service instincts Good time-management and organizational skills Attention to detail Clean and professional work habits Ability to adapt when every day’s work looks different Dependable attendance and reliable transportation Valid driver’s license You’ll Be Successful Here If You Enjoy variety and solving problems Are comfortable walking into an unfamiliar repair and figuring out the right solution Can work efficiently without sacrificing quality Don’t need someone standing over you to keep you productive Communicate clearly when something isn’t going according to plan Treat a customer’s home with the same care you would want someone to show yours Understand that finishing the right work correctly matters more than rushing through a list Can balance craftsmanship, efficiency, and customer experience How Our Handyman Division Works Handyman is a dedicated service division within Iowa Home Consulting and operates separately from our larger remodeling projects. Customers primarily purchase blocks of technician time for smaller repairs, maintenance items, installations, and project lists. Rather than requiring an onsite estimate for every small job, we gather project information ahead of time so our Handyman can arrive ready to work. That means this position requires more than technical ability. You’ll have substantial independence in the field and need to be able to evaluate conditions, prioritize work, communicate with customers, solve problems, and keep appointments moving efficiently. Our goal is to make getting professional help around the home dramatically easier without lowering the standard of the work being performed. About Iowa Home Consulting Iowa Home Consulting provides professional residential remodeling, handyman, and home improvement services throughout Central Iowa. We’re building a company around dependable people, strong systems, clear communication, professional craftsmanship, and a better homeowner experience. We’re looking for someone who wants the autonomy of working independently without having to run an entire handyman business themselves.
